Robinson Ancestor Found By DNA Line From Robert Robinson of England 1465-1510

It is October, 2022. I've been working on this forever. I've changed my mind at least 100 times, but finally am settling on who Abiathar Smith Robinson's line comes from. . His mother had to be Lois Safford. Here's how I decided, see below the pictures:
I believe that Abiathar's father was Amos Robinson, IV.

My 1st cousin took 67 allele test, then the Big Y Test, paid for by the Fitzpatrick Irish group, because we matched their people, giving us Irish origins with some unknown cousin, and it showed that we we had 2 other matches on FTDNA at that Big Y state; Robert Robinson b:1465-d: 1510 who was already listed on my tree; and Ralph Dyer of England, of which I had the present Dyer already listed on my tree. This Robert Robinson was the result of my first inclination of the correct ancesto, a perfect match to Dyer and a perfect match to the Irish Fitzpatricks. Grandpa Frank had told us his ancestors were from Wales which could have been true, though going deeper, they came from Ireland. A war had been going on between Ireland and England and things do get messy.
I followed Robert's descendants through the tree and it led to, surprises of all surprises, to my original hunch, Amos Robinson IV b: 1797 in Royalton, Vermont and his wife, Lois or Louisa Safford, also of Royalton. Our ggrandfather, Abiathar Smith Robinson, was married to Julia Ann Tuller of Royalton. Abiathar was never on any written papers being the son of Amos. That's why it was so hard to find his father. Abiathar was left out of any written history. All I could find out was that he was born on December 7, 1829 which is probably why he wasn't listed, being born with snow most likely in December in Royalton or nearby.
Heaven help me if I change my mind. This messes up my other female DNA connections, but they must connect somewhere along the way somehow. It's just that this Big Y test result is BIG and Important. There are a million Robinsons from New England, and only 3 tested with this DNA. It's quite rare. Before the Big Y test, we knew it to be called R-M269. I had tested it past the 67 allele test headed for more, but the Big Y is the end of the line, at least for now.
Now I'll have to go back and see what I can do with cousins already found that are not connected to this line---yet. There are names that are the same, though, another fact that is most confusing.
Back to Royalton, Windsor County, Vermont ! When I first started this research, I took out a book at the library on Royalton, Vermont descendants, and that's where I got a lot of my information. My gosh! Doing a search, I found a kinetic metal sculptor by the name of Amos Robinson! Could he be related?
Royalton is in Windsor County, bottom in blue.
Update; 10/10/22 An additional point is that I have DNA cousins found and thought the connection was from Bakersfield, Franklin, Vermont. Bakersfield is only 81 miles from Royalton, Windsor, Vermont; and today it would take only 1 hour and 34 minutes to drive the distance on I-89 North. So it is possible to still find the connection between the female twins Sherie and Cheryl Lynn, 2nd-4th cousins and Cheryl, a 3rd cousin once Removed. The irony here is that my 1st cousin is Charlotte Carol that we call Sherie. There's got to be a Charlotte or Sheryl in our genealogy that connects these 2 families with us besides the surname of Robinson.
Ggrandfather Abiathar Smith Robinsons father, Amos Robinson IV, was born in Royalton in 1797, died in 1871 in Wisconsin. He was married to Lois Safford and Betsey Davis.
Amos's father was Amos Robinson III, born in Connecticut and died in Illinois. He was married to Lavina Bullock and Elizabeth Hughes.
Amos's father was Amos Benton, II, born in Massachusetts and died in New Hampshire. He was married to Deborah Hyde, and a Lydia and an Anna. Deborah was b: CT and d: Hartford, Windsor, Vermont.
Amos Benton Robinson's father was Amos Robinson, Sr. born in Massachusetts and died in Massachusetts. His wife was Priscilla Lake and Lydia Wentworth.
My female DNA matches with Robinson on their tree had a mother, Diane M possibly of Rhode Island. (I have a 1st cousin, Diane Robinson). Their grandparents were a Richard David and a Lillian of Massachusetts, but our connection seems to be closer than that.
Their ggrandparents, Arthur David, are from Bakersfield, Vermont and Massachusetts. Arthur David's wife was Rebecca. His father was David, son of a Jacob Robinson, and there are a million Jacob Robinsons in New England. David was married to Rosina.
Cherie's connection were from Washington and Canada. Her father was from Kansas and mother from Minnesota. Her grandparents were from New Hampshire but buried in Bakersfield, and a New York, New Hampshire connection. There's Bakersfield that connect these 3 ladies, but not necessarily me.

Heman Durkee Line Leads to Stephen Hopkins, Passenger on Mayflower

My mother was Mildred Elizabeth Robinson b: 1913, and her father's maternal grandmother was Asinath Durkee b:1814. Asinath Durkee married Alonzo Charles Tullar and their daughter was Julia Ann Tuller born in 1834.
Julia Ann Tuller had married Abiathar Smith Robinson in 1852 in Tunbridge, Orange, Vermont, my great grandfather.
Julia Ann Tuller was the daughter of Alonzo Tuller and Asinath Durkee of Royalton, Vermont in 1850.
Asinath Durkee's father was Heman Durkee, Jr,b; 1839 married to Rebecca HatchHeman's father was Heman Durkee, Srb:1759, married to Susanna
Rix. His mother was Lucy ANNA Smalley, 1736.
Lucy ANNA Smalley was married to Timothy Lewis Durkee, b: 1737 of Woodberry, Litchfield, Connecticut.
Lucy ANNA Smalley's father was Joseph Smalley, Deacon,b 1711, married to Jemima Ordway.
Joseph Smalley's mother was REBECCA SNOW, b: 1676.
REBECCA SNOW'S father was John Snow, b: 1638.
JOHN SNOW'S mother was CONSTANCE HOPKINS.
CONSTANCE HOPKINS was the daughter of STEPHEN HOPKINS, a passenger on the Mayflower. He was more than that. He was the only passenger who had previous experience sailing. He was a big help.

Most Likely Genealogy of Abiathar Smith Robinson

Abiathar Smith Robinson, my great grandfather, was born on December 7, 1829 to Amos IV Robinson who was born in Royalton, Windsor, Vermont and his 2nd wife, Lois Safford, also from Royalton. Abiathar's credentials of where he was actually born and to whom has never been located. I choose this Amos IV because of when they were married. The 1830 census showed that they had a child in 1829 and Abiathar was born then; a child without parents; so he fits in the picture. Besides that, everyone else possible did not have such a slot, or if it is one of them, he would have been born before they were married, which of course, is possible. However, this fits nicely . Royalton is an important city in his history. Amos would have liked the name, Abiathar for a son, I believe being both were from the Old Testament. Abiathar grew up to be very strict about keeping the Sabbath-allowing no work on Sunday in which his home was a farm with horses and a bull that we know of. The descending line going back connects with our Maine Robinson line back to Meppershall, England.
I have attached Abiathar to other possibilities, but think now that this is the best- I had help from Kay Robinson of Wisconsin, a professor and a university librarian. Kay teaches ethnic and women's history. Her credentials are in 20th Century US & Russian diplomatic History and has a minor in 20th Century European History. She has since passed away from cancer. She was such a great help; even going to the county seats in Vermont to check on information. She was a descendant of the 1st wife of our common ancestor, Amos Robinson IV, of Royalton, Windsor, Vermont. We were from the 2nd wife.
2/20/07 Kay Robinson , left sent photocopy of Vermont Gazette, published as the Vermont Gazette; Date: 10-12- 1824, Volume XV, Issue 46; Page (3); Location; Bennington, identifying the death of Amos Robinson's 1st wife, Betsey. So there is no confusion, this is the Amos Jr. who went to Nekoosa, WI and was killed by a lightning strike. .This is the right Amos and yes, he moved to the Neenah/Menasha area......Nekoosa is a bit further down. Kay never had a DNA test that I know of; back in 2007 I'm not sure I was into it that much. I started testing in 2013.

Triangulation Findings of Common Ancestor Jonathan Robinson b: 1645

| Maine is so large compared to NH and Vermont! Jonathan Robinson b: 1645 in Massachusetts is a common ancestor to two other Robinsons and a Dyer of ours, with others connected to Maine. We had a triangulation.
I have found Dyers in Royalton, Windsor, Vermont where
Julia Ann Tuller lived at age 15, or ggrandmother. I found a
Gotham Dyer on the 1810 census and Jonathan Dyer , 78,with son,
Jonathan Dyer,35, on the 1850 census of Royalton.
Also on this 1810 census in Royalton was Amos Robinson III b: 1767 in Lebanon, CT with a son under 10, 2 sons from 10 to 15 and 2 sons from 16 to 25. He was from age 26 to 44. He was also on the 1820 census. Also on this same census was Martin Tuller b: 1784 and nephew of Daniel who was born in Royalton, with a son under 10 and he was also from 26 to 44 and his Uncle Daniel Tuller, Deacon b: 1745, who was older, from 45 and over with a son from 10 to 25. The Tullers were Julia Ann Tuller, wife of Abiathar's relatives. I have no idea of what the Y haplogroup of Amos Robinson could be, but this line hasn't connected with the found line of R-FT111213 that I know of, being descendants haven't been found that match, or could this Gotham Dyer have been a descendant of the Dyer line I know of? This is it. The line of Abiathar Smith Robinson, our ggrandfather, has to go like this. In Royalton, Vermont where his wife, Julia Ann Tuller lived at age 15, were many Amos Robinsons, and one, Amos Robinson, III, was his grandfather. His father was one of the sons, either Amos IV or Cyrus. I'll take Amos as Abiathar starts with A; like father, like son. I have just discovered that if I did the genealogy correctly, which I do question and will go back and check on, that the line goes back to The same Dyer line winding up in Meppershall, England. Like This: 1. Amos Robinson, III b: Sept 1767; wives Lavina Bullock and Betsey Hughes, Royalton, Windsor, Vermont but born in Lebanon, CT 2. Amos Robinson, IV b: 1711, wife Priscilla Lake, Topsfield Mass, Royalton, Windsor, Vermont 3. Jacob Robinson, b:1680, Topsfield, Mass. 4. John Robinson, b: 1642, Haverhill, Mass. 5. John Robinson, b: 1611, Meppershall, England With this line, I don't have to worry about Maine. That was the line apart from this line. Both carried the same Y haplogroup but started in England. My program and my genealogy back before 1850 could be shaky. We'll see. |
The reason I think this is that it's part of a line belonging to a very close match of his, another James Robinson, as a matter of fact, of Maine and another Robinson who also follows his tree. In this family, Abiathar could have been one of 10 siblings, and had ridden off to Vermont when about 20 years old.
Or somewhere along this family line of Robinsons, our line connects with the same Y haplogroup DNA.

This was just verified by Tim Fitzpatrick of the Fitzpatrick group on FTDNA, because all 3 show we also have Irish genes of the Fitzpatrick line. This was not found by our genealogy findings, but by DNA matchings. Amazing, isn't it? It doesn't mean that we share any segments of DNA on our 23 chromosomes, either as a different test would show.

| Robinson Female Seminary in Exeter, New Hampshire 1870 where Jonathan Robinson died in 1727. The school was dedicated to the idea that young women should study academics at the same level that boys , but it was quickly determined that cooking could be taught scientifically and was a practical skill and was needed for the betterment of society. Nathaniel Ward, the esteemed Puritan Minister from Ipswich had petitioned the General Court of the Massachusetts Bay Colony for a settlement along the Merrimack River in order to secure a residence and ministry for his son John Ward. The men chosen to pioneer this expedition were pilgrims, independent men who had come to New England to establish a home and community where they could plough the land and practice religious freedom. After finding the settlements at Newbury and Ipswich fully inhabited, Pentucket promised a chance for prosperity at a new plantation where land could be cleared, fields tilled and God’s abundant bounty sustained. Old Pentucket was Haverhill's first 100 years. The intrepid explorers were by name: William White, John Robinson, Abraham Tyler, Samuel Gile, Christopher Hussey, Daniel Ladd, James Davis, John Williams, Joseph Merrie, Henry Palmer, Richard Littlehale and Job Clement.  |
By 1790 there were 1,722 people in Exeter. Rockingham, New Hampshire, where Jonathan Robinson died. Exeter suffered its last Indian raid in August 1723 and by 1725 the tribes had left the area. In 1774 the rebellious Provincial Congress began to meet in the Exeter Town House after Colonial Governor John Wentworth banned it from the colonial capitol at Portsmouth. In July 1775, the Provincial Congress had the provincial records seized from royal officials in Portsmouth and brought to Exeter as well. And so Exeter became New Hampshire's American Revolutionary War capital, an honor it held for 14 years until Concord assumed the role. He died at age 82.

Another party, not a Robinson, also matches the male line of Y with FT111213 as well. They are also a line from Maine. Our Abiathar Smith Robinson is the first to leave the Vermont history. I didn't have a clue his family could be from Maine. He was alone in Vermont without parents that I knew of. On the 1850 census, his future 15 year old wife in Royalton, Windsor, Vermont, had a 51 yr old John Robinson farmer living with them helping out her father. I had suspected him to be Abiathar's father, but Abiathar wasn't staying there with him. Julia Ann Tuller and Abiathar married in Tunbridge, Orange, Vermont next door to Royalton. They had a lot of Robinsons living there, and I believe Abiathar was staying there. The problem is that Robinson is a very common surname, being 16th most popular in the USA. New England was loaded with Robinsons.

Through DNA's family finder test of our 23 chromosomes having segments of DNA, I have found other women with bits of DNA matching ours on a few of our 23 chromosomes showing that Robinsons did connect with other Robinsons that were connected to us.

I found that George of Glasgow had 6 sons: Samuel George, George, William, Benjamin, John, and Nathaniel. He left many avenues from New England to Scotland.
Our 3 Y haplogroup DNA matches do not lead to Scotland nor are they of R-L21 haplogroup. They are R-M269 which could out to be the same but needs a higher testing, and the other 2 are both R's of different branches.
