New York is a possible birth place since Abiathar slipped and said he was born there in the 1900 census. Then he died in 1904. Dementia? Family forgetting where? Vermont and New York are connected by history.
The first John I've selected who married Eliza Fowler goes like this:

Abiathar did have Rix in his 1st son's name.

There have been two John Robinsons I have considered who was the 51 year old man living with Alonzo Tuller's family that included Julia Ann Tuller age 15 who married our Abiathar Smith Robinson in Tunbridge, Orange, Vermont in 1852. He was given the age of 51 on the 1850 census and was the farmer in this family group in Royalton, Vermont while Alonzo was noted as a stone worker. The census never identified the relationship. That would mean John was born in 1799 in Vermont. He could be Abiathar Smith Robinson's father. Why he, a farmer, is living with Alonzo Tuller, a stone mason, but later, a farmer, is unknown, but he's there in 1850.
By February 29, 1852, Abiathar Smith Robinson is marrying Alonzo Tuller's daughter, Julia Ann in Tunbridge, Orange, Vermont, which is right next door to Royalton, Windsor, Vermont.
I found Abiathar and Julia on 1870 census in Wenona, Illinois, born in Vermont and next door to Albert Tuller, brother of Julia. They were also in Wenona, Illinois in 1880. On the 1900 census, Abiathar said he was born in New York. Abiathar died in Wenona in 1904. Whoever was speaking to the census-taker didn't know; maybe one of the children. Abiathar died 4 years later, so he may not have been well.
Interesting is that my grandfather named my uncle Edward Kenneth Robinson. Did he know of this history or was it just his inclination to do so?
On the other hand, looking at the family buried in Tunbridge in the Hunt Cemetery finds many of one family of James Robinson with wife, Mary Bicknell.

Over 13 Durkees, so many in Hunt Cemetery..a few in another. Julia Ann Robinson nee Tuller's mother, Asenath was a Durkee. No wonder they married in Tunbridge.
So often I want to shout; "Will the real father of Abiathar please stand up?" Has the line ended with us? We need other Robinsons DNA tested. That's all I can say. We're looking for a Y haplogroup of R-L21 or upgraded to R-FT 111213.

Final Statement of our Robinson Genealogy: Pastor John Robinson Who Sent Pilgrims Onto Mayflower Produced Best Robinson Genealogists

John Robinson (1576–1625) was the pastor of the "Pilgrim Fathers" before they left on the Mayflower. He became one of the early leaders of the English Separatists called Brownists, and is regarded (along with Robert Browne and Henry Barrow) as one of the founders of the Congregational Church. His son was probably the 1st Robinson to land in America as John stayed in Holland. Evidently other Robinsons also left England and Scotland and Ireland and set sail for America, too. Our line is not of this John's line. John and Bridget White had 7 children.
New England was full of Robinsons. My opinion is that tracing a Robinson line is one of the most difficult tasks in genealogy. So much depends on the census information from 1799 onwards, and especially from 1850 and on, sticking with the same wife, etc.
The sure fact we have is the Big Y test of descendants' DNA results. That is one way we can tell if we are connected to that famous Pastor John Robinson and his line or not. Our line has been tested and we are a rare group going back to Irish roots of R-FT111213, specifically with the Fitzpatrick Clan. When my male cousin Ken was tested originally, the result of a 25 allele Y test was something like R1b1a2a1a1b4, then later as we tested more, into R-L21.
Pastor John Robinson must have had descendants that had kept their births in a large old bible for starters, and then kept it going. My grandmother had done that for her husband, Abiathar Smith Robinson born December 1829, in Vermont with possibilities of it being New York as someone suggested that for his place of birth on one of the census information. The others said Vermont, so Vermont it is. He was caught on one marrying Julia Ann Tuller in Tunbridge, Orange, Vermont. The next census found him till death living in Wenona, Marshall, Illinois. At one time they were even living in upper Canada, the English part where a couple of their children were born.
So it's been a great challenge to decide who could have possibly been Abiathar's parents.
I have a few people who match us with the Y DNA. Dyer is one and the closest, James Alton Robinson of Maine another up to a point.
So considering all this and wanting the last Robinson to be Irish/Scotch, as that seems to come together in history, I found someone. I'm sticking with that John Robinson age 51 on the Tuller family 1850 census of Royalton, Windsor, Vermont in which Julia Ann Tuller was living with her parents at age 15. He seems to be the best candidate for Abiathar's father.
The John living with the Tullers seemed to be a John Robinson from Calais, Washington, Vermont, which is a straight shot north of Tunbridge in Vermont. The distance was about 39 miles from Tunbridge.
It led me from a John Robinson 51 years old in 1850 to Joel Robinson b: 1772 in Massachusetts and wife Rachel Stevens; then to Captain Samuel Robinson b: 1742 Massachusetts and wife Mary H; then to Josiah Robinson b: 1711 Massachusetts and wife Anna Barton, then William Robinson b: 1673 Massachusetts and wife Elizabeth Upham, and then William Robinson b: 1640 Bristol, Glouchester, or Yorkshire, England who died in Cambridge, Massachusetts and wife Elizabeth Cutter; then William Robinson b; 1614 Canterbury, Kent, England and wife Margaret Beach and lastly John Robinson b: 1588 in Barton St. David, Somerset, England d: Dorchester, Suffolk, Massachusetts and wife Agnes Street. So our Irish roots are even earlier than this.

The neighborhood is named after the town of Dorchester in the English county of Dorset, from which Puritans emigrated on the ship Mary and John, among others.
Going back 8 generations, I ended with another John Robinson b: 1588, in Barton St. David, Somerset, England married to Agnes Street. John died in 1693 in Dorchester, Suffolk, Massachusetts. He was found by some other Robinson researcher and I used his work.

Colonel Jacob Davis named Calais after the French port city of the same name, during a time of general enthusiasm for things French as a result of France's aid during the American Revolution.The Wheelocks and Parkers were the first families to settle the town, in the latter part of the 18th century. In the early and mid 19th century, the Vermont wool industry spawned sheep pastures in the town. Photographs of the time show a heavily de-forested Calais. Like many small Vermont towns, Calais was devastated by the Civil War. Volunteers from Calais flocked to the Union cause, most serving in the Army's volunteer regiments. In the post-Civil War era, agriculture turned from sheep to dairy, and new families came to fill farms that were sold by the families and widows of Civil War veterans. I remember seeing Parker on many of the early census with our Robinson people.
Rix Robinson (1789–1875) was a Michigan pioneer. He was a fur trader and the first permanent Euro-American settler of Kent County, Michigan, a representative to the state constitutional convention of 1850 and a state senator.
Robinson was born August 28, 1789, in Richmond, Massachusetts. His parents were Edward and Eunice (Rix) Robinson of Preston, Connecticut. His father was a blacksmith and farmer. He was considered a studious child and regularly attended school. At age 19 he began the study of law in Auburn, New York, and was admitted to practice law in 1811. At the outbreak of the War of 1812, which his father strongly opposed, Robinson headed west to avoid the draft, with one thousand dollars given to him by his father. He moved to the large outpost of Detroit in the Michigan Territory where United States Troops were garrisoned and there was a prospering fur trade.
