Counties in Vermont: Where Was Abiathar Smith Robinson Born? Windham? Bennington?

Nadene Goldfoot
Vermont, a very small state, is only 9,623 square miles in size.
Oregon happens to be 96,003 square miles in size.
Frank Hugh Robinson, his son and my grandfather,  moved to Oregon from
Wenona, Marshall, Illinois where Frank  was born.
Where was my great grandfather, Abiathar Smith Robinson born?
There are no records of him other than at the Wenona, Illinois Cemetery and my grandparents' huge Bible with records in the front pages.  His wife, Julia Ann Tuller, was easily found in the October 28,1850 census living in Royalton, Windsor, Vermont with her parents at the age of 15.  Abiathar was not.  They married on February 29, 1852, leap year in Tunbridge, Orange, Vermont which was next door.  Lots of Robinsons lived there, I noticed, and the same in Royalton.  In fact, Vermont was just loaded with Robinsons of which all could have been great parents of Abiathar.
One potential father I like a lot is Descendants of HIRAM ROBINSON, Jr.

HIRAM ROBINSON, Jr. b: March 18, 1809 in Jamaica, Windham,  Vermont d: 1839 in Jamaica, Windham,  Vermont
.. +SALLY "Sarah" Smith b: January 01, 1812 in Jamaica, Windham County, Vermont d: August 30, 1905 in Wenona, Marshall, Illinois m: May 20, 1830 in Jamaica, Windham, Vermont.
This one explains the Smith as a middle name.  I like it.

Another is Descendants of JACOB H. ROBINSON

[1] JACOB H. ROBINSON b: 1790 in Bakersfield, Franklin, Vermont  ,  d: October 14, 1867 in Bakersfield, Franklin, Vermont
.. +Mary J. b: 1805 in Bakersfield, Franklin, VT m: Abt. 1825 in prob: Bakersfield, Franklin, Vermont
*2nd Wife of [1] JACOB H. ROBINSON: n, Vermont d: in Bakersfield, Franklin, Vermont
.. +OLIVE Polly Clemens Clement b: August 1816 in Ferrisburg, Quebec, Canada d: December 03, 1900 in Bakersfield, Franklin, Vermont m: 1837 in prob. Bakersfield, Franklin, Vermont/Tunbridge, Orange, VT
Franklin was not in my consideration, but I have two ladies who match some of my genes who also have Robinsons from here.
CC and SL and her sister, CL are my 2nd to 4th cousins and they match each other on chromosome #1 segment. SL and CL match me with 24.81cMs and CC matches us with 34.44cMs.  Sl and CL also match me on #7 with 48.90cMs.  CC matches me on #14 with 5.68cMs  and on the 23rd chromosome (X) the sex gene,  telling me we share a female ancestor with a segment of 5.27cMs.

With Robinson being the 16th most popular name, it's not surprising that a Robinson would marry into another Robinson family.
Frank Hugh Robinson and father, Abiathar Smith Robinson

  Descendants of Abiathar Smith Robinson

[1] Abiathar Smith Robinson b: December 07, 1829 in Bennington, Bennington, VT.; Jamaica, Windham,VT; / Cayuga, NY/ prob. Weathersfield, Windsor, Vermont d: October 07, 1904 in Wenona, Marshall, Illinois
.. +Julia Ann Tuller b: December 18, 1834 in Royalton, Windsor, Vermont d: December 02, 1887 in Wenona, Marshall, Illinois m: February 29, 1852 in Tunbridge, Orange, Vermont by justice of the peace Alva Button
*2nd Wife of [1] Abiathar Smith Robinson:
.. +Mary Jane Deffenbaugh Walters b: November 27, 1832 in Hocking County, Ohio d: July 05, 1918 in Streator, LaSalle, Illinois, age 85 m: 1896 in prob. Wenona, Illinois

It's interesting that Windsor is really next door to Orange.   Lots of Robinsons came from Bennington and Windham, neighbors.  Windham and Windsor are also neighbors.

Windham had over 20 pages with 20 people on each page making 400 Robinsons at the LDS FamilySearch.
Bennington has over 400 as well.
Windsor also had over 400 Robinsons.
Royalton, Windsor had 41 listed with both city and county.  Many of those were children of Amos Robinson, of which there were two Amos with wives of  Betsey and Lavina.
Orange  had over 600.  I kept going and the names kept coming.  It's probably true for the others as well.
Rutland had at least 400 Robinsons.
Franklin had 360 Robinsons.
   Descendants of Daniel Bullard Robinson

Daniel Bullard Robinson b: August 26, 1847 in Swanton/ St. Albans, Franklin, Vermont d: May 31, 1901 in Chicago, Cook County, Illinois
.. +Ella M. Perkins b: April 16, 1849 in St. Louis, Missouri d: May 02, 1903 in St. Albans, Franklin, Vermont m: January 25, 1871 in St. Louis, Missouri.  He's not on either tree of consideration at this time.

Robinson-Dyer Connection

1st cousin Ken Robinson who was DNA tested
Our grandpa, Frank Hugh Robinson.
Behind him is his son, Edward Kenneth Robinson
b: 1915
father of Ken Robinson and brother of my mother.
Our grandfather as a child and his father, Abiathar Smith Robinson who was born in Vermont December 71829 and died in 1904 in Wenona, Illinois.
Nadene Goldfoot
Our grandfather, Frank Hugh Robinson
b: 1870 in Illinois
My male 1st cousin Robinson has a rare Y haplogroup of R1b1a2a1a1b4 in his original 37 allele test, and after taking the Big Y haplogroup test, came out with having R-A1487.  It actually traces to the Fitzpatricks of Ireland in our deep history, even though most indications show our ancestors were from England.  Not enough Robinson males have tested to find out more.

Our only Y haplogroup match is with James V. Dyer, and I have found a connection of Robinson -Dyer.
They have a distance of 9..

Another picture from Tom, 2nd cousin of our mutual grandfather,
Abiathar Smith Robinson.  This is a younger version of my picture.
I looked in  Family Finder and found many Dyer-Robinson connections that had happened in England.
1. Richard Dyer married in 1777 to Martha Robinson in Hampshire, England
2. John Dyer m: 1859 to Esther Robinson.in Warwickshire, England
3. William Dyer m: 1829 to Elizabeth Robinson
4. John Dyer m: 1715 to Elinor Robinson in Worcestershire, England
5. John Dyer m: May 21, 1758 to Mary Robinson in Reading Berkshire, England
6. Albert Edward Dyer m: 1907 to Lydia Ann Robinson
7. Edwin Thomas Dyer m: 1890 to Charlotte Dorothy Robinson
8. John Dyer m: July 6, 1759 to Mary Robinson in Reading, Berkshire, England

Then I found a few in Michigan, USA
1. Thomas H Dyer m: 1877 to J.N. Robinson
2. Raymond B. Dyer in 1925 to Myrtle M. Robinson

More came up from England and finally I found someone from New York:
1. Henry Dyer born in Connecticut, with parents of John Dyer and Sarah Scott, married in Manhattan, NY in 1885 to Julia Robinson and a John Robinson was in her life.

There were pages and pages of Dyers marrying Robinsons.  I even found one in Ireland:
John Dyer married in 1847 in Leinster, Ireland to Elizabeth Ann Robinson.

Here's one I must work on.
Marshall L. Dyer married on either the 1st or 8th of September 1871 in Vermont to Addie G. Robinson whose father was Elijah Robinson b 1808 in Weathersfield, Windsor, Vermont.  This line of Robinsons as I worked on it goes back to the Reverend John Robinson who told the Pilgrims in Holland to go to America on the Mayflower.

He is Marshall Lorenzo Dyer b: January 13, 1846 in Brookton Town, Washington, Maine  died 22 August 1923 in Vermont.  Marshall is also a name used twice that I know of on my tree already from New York on the Dyer tree.
I have found many female Dyers marrying Robinsons in Maine.
Their child listed was George Levi Dyer b: 1875 in Brighton, Essex, Vermont.  He was the town clerk and died at age 71 in 1947.

I did find a Hubert Dyer marry on May 25, 1908 in Maine to Sophia Robinson.
Maine is very important because the closest  Robinson match that my 1st male cousin has in a James Robinson with ancestors from Maine.  This is also confirmed on FTDNA, and ours is from Vermont.

Family Search has pages and pages of Dyers marrying Robinsons.  All I did was print Dyer in the surname of the person I was searching and under spouse, I printed in the surname section-Robinson.  No dates.  It all came up.  This was a new tool for me.  I was charged up and needed to find a connection.  Wow!
Robinson was the 16th most popular surname when I started my hobby of genealogy, but I never knew about Dyer.

FTDNAs Family Search shows that JVDyer has a distance of 9 meaning 5 out of 565 difference in the Big Y test so according to the Tip tool, we go back 16 generations and have an 82.57% chance to match; or go back 24 generations and have a 98.99% chance so for sure, if we go back to the year 1420, we should find our common ancestor.   As for our matching DNA, we don't on FTDNA, but might with GedMatchgenesis today as their tools will show matches under 5 cMs.  However, the other James Robinson is a match to us as a 5th cousin.  Our chromosome #6 has a segment of 8.13cMs.

Our Dyer Y haplogroup match stems from Palmyra, Somerset, Maine.  Lots of Dyers there:
