Abiathar Smith Robinson's Father Remains Unknown-One Last Possibility

Abiathar's children were: Edward Rix, Edgar Clyde or Clayton, Abiathar W, Nellie Elizabeth, Emma "Hattie", John C, Julia, William S, Frank Hugh, Minnie J and Arthur Roy Robinson.
Another is the descendant of Abiathar's 4th child, Nellie Elizabeth Robinson. She had married Daniel C. McCullem and she was born Aug 15, 1857 in Upper Canada, going along with the knowledge that Abiathar and Julia Ann had moved there. Daniel was son of John McCullem father of Daniel C. McCullem, father of Philip John McCullem who had a daughter, Shirley Rose McCullem and Sandra is the daughter of Shirley and is our cousin.
At age 88 1/2, I still have not found my great grandfather's father. I have found clues but they are a dead end. Abiathar Smith Robinson, b: December 7, 1829, is not on any birth certificate or piece of paper on ancestry.com. A distant relative, Holly K. Waterman b: 1951-d:2014, married to Jed Betts, living in Vermont scoured the countryside looking for it and didn't find it. She was librarian at the college as I remember, and had worked with me a lot.
What I do know for sure is that he married Julia Ann Tuller in Tunbridge, Orange, Vermont on February 29, 1852. Also, there was a John Robinson, 51 years old, living with Julia's family on the 1850 census who helped her father, Alonzo Charles Tuller/ar farm. There were other Robinsons in Tunbridge as well.
6/19/10: I noted back in 2010 this note: On 1850 census was a John Robinson age 51 living with them. Was he the father of Abaithar Smith Robinson? Don't know who he was. He was another with the very common name of John who was impossible to trace. He was 51 and living with the Tullers, and had no wife which would have identified him on some census later.
1850 was the first year that both men and women were listed on the census. Before that, it was just the men.
I did find the Tullers and Abiathar being friends. They lived next door to each other on occasion that I found on census information.
I chose Amos Robinson of Royalton,Windsor, Vermont as Abiathar's father as they were a prominent family of Royalton. He was born December 28, 1797 in Royalton. He was on the census from 1800 onward. This Amos was son of another Amos Robinson of Royalton b: September 25, 1767 in Lebanon, New London, CT. Amos of Royalton had a nice farm/ranch and Abiathar had horses, too. Abiathar was strict religiously because one day Frank Hugh had forgotten that his horse was in a field, and somebody put the bull in the field which could kill the horse. Frank Hugh wanted to get his horse out of the field but it was Sunday, and Abiathar wouldn't let him do it. The horse got killed and our grandfather, Frank Hugh ran away from home, never to return. It might make him happy-that my grandson, Dustin, is now a veterinarian.
However, I've gone back and checked out the census again, and Abiathar is not on Amos's census or anyone else's. He finally showed up at age 41 on the August 11, 1870 census of Wenona, Illinois with Julia and their children. They were next door to Albert Tuller, Julia's brother. He was also on the June 7, 1880 Wenona, Illinois census at age 52 as A. Roberson with Julia and same children, 10 years older. Was he listed as Roberson or Robertson earlier? Could be. Abiathar died October 1904 in Wenona, Illinois. He had remarried in 1896 to Mary Jane Deffenbaugh Walters, probably a neighbor, in Wenona. Julia had died in 1887 in Wenona.
The one good thing we have is the Y haplogroup/haplotype of Abiathar through 1st cousin Kenneth Robinson, son of my mother, Mildred Elizabeth Robinson's brother, Edward Kenneth Robinson, which has been labeled as R-L21 from the original label of R1b1a2.a1a1b4..and now, with the upgraded testing on February 26, 2020, of the BIG Y TEST, is labeled as R-FT111213, which was paid for by the Irish Fitzpatrick clan.org. who found that Ken and Dyer were a part of their group. So, going way back, we have Irish roots, not Wales as Grandpa Frank Hugh Robinson had told us. At least he thought it was Wales.
The first names of Abiathar (high priest during King David's time) and Amos are from the Old Testament. Their religion during this period was into the Old Testament, using such names for their children. They also start with A, putting them first on any list.
Update: 4/19/2023
I just hooked up Abiathar to a John Robinson of Calais, Washington, Vermont. They are a direct line from each other, 36.7 miles apart.The only problem with this is that John is on both places 1850 census, but then 1850 has 365 days, and he could have moved during then to work for Tuller.

Robinson Ancestor Found By DNA Line From Robert Robinson of England 1465-1510

It is October, 2022. I've been working on this forever. I've changed my mind at least 100 times, but finally am settling on who Abiathar Smith Robinson's line comes from. . His mother had to be Lois Safford. Here's how I decided, see below the pictures:
I believe that Abiathar's father was Amos Robinson, IV.

My 1st cousin took 67 allele test, then the Big Y Test, paid for by the Fitzpatrick Irish group, because we matched their people, giving us Irish origins with some unknown cousin, and it showed that we we had 2 other matches on FTDNA at that Big Y state; Robert Robinson b:1465-d: 1510 who was already listed on my tree; and Ralph Dyer of England, of which I had the present Dyer already listed on my tree. This Robert Robinson was the result of my first inclination of the correct ancesto, a perfect match to Dyer and a perfect match to the Irish Fitzpatricks. Grandpa Frank had told us his ancestors were from Wales which could have been true, though going deeper, they came from Ireland. A war had been going on between Ireland and England and things do get messy.
I followed Robert's descendants through the tree and it led to, surprises of all surprises, to my original hunch, Amos Robinson IV b: 1797 in Royalton, Vermont and his wife, Lois or Louisa Safford, also of Royalton. Our ggrandfather, Abiathar Smith Robinson, was married to Julia Ann Tuller of Royalton. Abiathar was never on any written papers being the son of Amos. That's why it was so hard to find his father. Abiathar was left out of any written history. All I could find out was that he was born on December 7, 1829 which is probably why he wasn't listed, being born with snow most likely in December in Royalton or nearby.
Heaven help me if I change my mind. This messes up my other female DNA connections, but they must connect somewhere along the way somehow. It's just that this Big Y test result is BIG and Important. There are a million Robinsons from New England, and only 3 tested with this DNA. It's quite rare. Before the Big Y test, we knew it to be called R-M269. I had tested it past the 67 allele test headed for more, but the Big Y is the end of the line, at least for now.
Now I'll have to go back and see what I can do with cousins already found that are not connected to this line---yet. There are names that are the same, though, another fact that is most confusing.
Back to Royalton, Windsor County, Vermont ! When I first started this research, I took out a book at the library on Royalton, Vermont descendants, and that's where I got a lot of my information. It was special, on the inter-state loan section behind the desks. History of Royalton, Vermont: With Family Genealogies, 1769-1911 - Mary Evelyn Wood Lovejoy - Google Books.
My gosh! Doing a search, I found a kinetic metal sculptor by the name of Amos Robinson! Could he be related?
Royalton is in Windsor County, bottom in blue.
Update; 10/10/22 An additional point is that I have DNA cousins found and thought the connection was from Bakersfield, Franklin, Vermont. Bakersfield is only 81 miles from Royalton, Windsor, Vermont; and today it would take only 1 hour and 34 minutes to drive the distance on I-89 North. So it is possible to still find the connection between the female twins Sherie and Cheryl Lynn, 2nd-4th cousins and Cheryl, a 3rd cousin once Removed. The irony here is that my 1st cousin is Charlotte Carol that we call Sherie. There's got to be a Charlotte or Sheryl in our genealogy that connects these 2 families with us besides the surname of Robinson.
Ggrandfather Abiathar Smith Robinsons father, Amos Robinson IV, was born in Royalton in 1797, died in 1871 in Wisconsin. He was married to Lois Safford and Betsey Davis.
Amos's father was Amos Robinson III, born in Connecticut and died in Illinois. He was married to Lavina Bullock and Elizabeth Hughes.
Amos's father was Amos Benton, II, born in Massachusetts and died in New Hampshire. He was married to Deborah Hyde, and a Lydia and an Anna. Deborah was b: CT and d: Hartford, Windsor, Vermont.
Amos Benton Robinson's father was Amos Robinson, Sr. born in Massachusetts and died in Massachusetts. His wife was Priscilla Lake and Lydia Wentworth.
My female DNA matches with Robinson on their tree had a mother, Diane M possibly of Rhode Island. (I have a 1st cousin, Diane Robinson). Their grandparents were a Richard David and a Lillian of Massachusetts, but our connection seems to be closer than that.
Their ggrandparents, Arthur David, are from Bakersfield, Vermont and Massachusetts. Arthur David's wife was Rebecca. His father was David, son of a Jacob Robinson, and there are a million Jacob Robinsons in New England. David was married to Rosina.
Cherie's connection were from Washington and Canada. Her father was from Kansas and mother from Minnesota. Her grandparents were from New Hampshire but buried in Bakersfield, and a New York, New Hampshire connection. There's Bakersfield that connect these 3 ladies, but not necessarily me.

The Indian Raid on Royalton, Windsor, Vermont With Bigger Implications From British Rule-and Our Ancestors, the Rix and Durkee Families

I had read about the burning of Royalton from the Durkee family newsletter from the Spring of 1993 of which Bernice B. Gunderson was the editor and family researcher for the President, Robin K. Durkee. It was exciting to find we also had Durkee lines running through our veins with all that DNA, so its history was even more impressive. Now I'm finding reference to this in another form. https://www.ourherald.com/articles/royalton-raid-revisited. The burning of this town was most distressful as they were the very 1st settlers of the town that was started in 1779. There was the settlement before being chartered and the town was thriving. They had large stocks of cattle. They were attacked on October 16, 1780.
My interest today lies in the fact that Abiathar and Julia Ann, married in 1852 in Tunbridge, Orange, Vermont which is next door to Royalton, Windsor, Vermont, moved to Canada and were there for I don't now how long until after the Civil War when I found them in Wenona, Marshall, Illinois. My question was why would anyone move there?
Canada was luring loyalists to Canada with the promise of free land. They evidently had reason to think they could apply and get land. I have no solid proof of who Abiathar's parents were or who they were connected with. I've been making a lot of educated guesses because Vermont, in fact all of New England was bursting with Robinsons, the 16th most popular surname eventually in the USA.
The well-known heroine of the day is a young mother, Hannah Handy or Hendee, who has escaped capture but who crosses the White River to confront Lt. Houghton, to demand the return of her son. Hendee’s spunk earns her the admiration of the Mohawks, who eventually agree to hand over her son and several other children.
The Indians killed Pember and Button and took as prisoners, Joseph Kneeland, Havens, Mesers, Simeon Belknap, Giles Gibbs and Jonathan Brown with Joeph Kneeland and his aged father, Elias Curtis, John Kent and Peter Mason. They plundered every house they found. They came upon General Elias Stevens working with his oxen. He rode home halfway and saw Captain Joseph Parkhurst who told him that the Indians were by river already, so they both rode down river. when they came to the home of Deacon Daniel Rix where they rescued his wife and 3 of their children with the Deacon. Again Stevens ran into Indians and veered, coming to his father in law's home, tilly Parkhurst. General Stevens tried to get people into the woods, out of sight of the Indians. Many, driven by fear, wound up in Sharon, Vermont and at Captain E. Parkhurst's home. (I have Pember on our tree.)
The Indians had gone to the home of Deacon Daniel Rix. They took Gardner Rix, his son, a boy about 14 years old which his mother witnessed. They left another house and went up the river as far as Mr. Timothy Durkee's home where they took 2 of his boys prisoners; Adan and Andrew, and carried the former to Canada, who died there in prison. Adan Durkee died in camp at Montreal. The family of Timothy Durkee suffered through the burning of Royalton. Only the eldest son, Heman, remained in Royalton after this attack. Several had moved to New York, with the grandchildren spreading out to Pennsylvania, Wisconsin, Texas, Illinois, Michigan, Indiana, Odelltown, Canada, and Iowa.
Meanwhile, a militia of some 300 armed settlers has been mustered and comes upon Lt. Houghton and his party at about 2 a.m. For Zadock Steele and other captives, these trials are only the beginning of two years of hardship. Held first at an Indian village in Canada, Steele and others are eventually sold to the British. For most of the next two years, he is held in a maximum-security prison on an island in the middle of the St. Lawrence River, under conditions of extreme privation.
In August of 1782, Steele and several other prisoners stage a daring escape, which involves digging a 20-foot tunnel, and then swimming through the dangerous rapids surrounding the island. The escapees have no way of knowing the Revolutionary War is over, and all prisoners are about to be released.
Abiathar and Julia Ann named their 1st son, born in November 1852, Edward RIX Robinson. I guess they knew about the Indian raid, alright. Deacon Daniel Rix is my 5th great grandfather from Julia's side. We have a whole slew of Rix ancestors. Julia Ann Tuller's mother was Asenith Durkee, born 1814 Timothy Durkee, born May 18, 1776 was Asenith's 2nd cousin twice removed.

Goodbye to Grandparents
Garner was born on July 31, 1767 in Preston, New London, Connecticut. Garner Rix grew up on the farm near his grandparents, aunts, uncles and lots of cousins. He was the oldest son of Daniel and Rebecca (Johnson) Rix. When Garner was about 12 years old his family packed up their things and moved up the Connecticut River to their new home in Royalton, Vermont. That year his older sister, Susanna, was 14. She probably was a great help to their mother in caring for the younger children: Joseph 9, Rebecca 7, Daniel 4, and Little Elisha just 2 years old. In this, the spring of 1779, their mother, Rebecca, 37, was pregnant with Jerusha.
Garner Rix was 13 years old at the time of the Royalton Raid. He was captured by the Indians in the last raid of the American Revolution. He was taken to Montreal, sold to a French Woman who kept him safe for a year until it was safe for him to walk home, by himself at age 14.
