Nova Scotia's Lure to the Robinson's Durkees
The same thing happened later when the Civil War started in 1861. Our ggrandfather, Abiathar Smith Robinson and his wife, Julia Ann Tuller, moved from the Royalton-Tunbridge, Vermont area to Canada during the Civil War. The lure supposedly was land for farming. They left immediately after the war was over and returned to the states, settling this time in Wenona, Marshall, Illinois.
It was 100 years earlier that Julia Ann's mother's family tried to live in Nova Scotia. Julia's mother was Asenith Durkee, born in 1814 in Royalton, Windsor, Vermont. Asenith's father was Heman Durkee, born in 1789 in Royalton. Her mother was Rebeccah Hatch, daughter of Isaac Hatch and Mary Polly Shepherd of Tolland Connecticut.
Heman's 2nd cousin twice removed was Phineas Durkee b: 1730 who would move to Nova Scotia from Connecticut. Phineas had married Phoebe Pearl, being married there in Windham. They moved across the border into Brimfield, Massachusetts a few weeks after their wedding. There, they must have heard about the good land in Nova Scotia and all the opportunities it had to offer over America at that time.
The fact was that the French who had been on the land were expulsed in 1755 and by 1758, people in Halifax were trying to interest New England and Pennsylvania's population to settle there. By June 9, 1761, 3 families moved to Nova Scotia from Connecticut but suffered greatly before Spring came.
Phineas and Phebe Durkee arrived there in the 2nd summer in 1762. No sooner than they settled in than Phebe gave birth to her 6th child, Phineas Jr. The Durkees chose a coastal area called Chebogue and their homestead was called Durkee's Island. Phineas's trade was that of a tanner of hides. He was also going to farm. The man was a go-getter. He started the first saw-mill and shipping enterprises. The position of first town clerk went to him. It is said that people can read his careful records today. You will find that he also served on many commiittees about the organization of the town and became Justice of the Peace in 1767. This land became known as Yarmouth. They were not the only Durkees to move there. Andrew and Robert Durkee were also early settlers.

Finding Father of Abiathar Smith Robinson-Two Different Hiram Robinsons to Choose From
daughter of Mildred Elizabeth Robinson,
granddaughter of Abiathar Smith Robinson
I decided to look for THE CORRECT father of Abiathar Smith Robinson, my great grandfather, in cemeteries, so looked next door to Royalton, Vermont's Tunbridge, where Abiathar and Julia Ann Tuller got married. There had to be a reason for that, and I know that the Durkees had a cemetery there named for them. Julia's mother was a Durkee. I used http://findagrave.com for my searches.
We use familytreedna for our DNA testing called familyfinder. I found: that my 1st cousin Robinson has 1525 matches on FTDNA and 140 of them are now marked as coming from his father's genealogy tree. His father was my mother's brother. Family tree shows that my cousin's ancestors were 0.1% of the population of England, 0.1% of the population of Scotland and 0.2% of the population of Ireland. Our DYS 393 allele is a 12 and not a 13, so we are rare Robinsons! And Robinson is the 16th most popular surname, too. In fact, on my tree which shows several possibities of fathers for Abiathar, I find I have 16 Hiram Robinsons! It was a very popular name.
Originally, I thought a Hiram Robinson (1809-1839) married to Sally /Sarah Smith were his parents as they were from Jamaica, Windham County, Vermont and Sally had been a Smith. Sally wound up in Wenona, Marshall, Illinois when she had remarried Thomas Russell in 1841 after Hiram had died. My grandfather, Frank Hugh Robinson, was born in Wenona, Marshall, Illinois, being Abiathar moved there after returned from Canada after the Civil War, so there is this connection as well as SMITH.
The distance between Jamaica and Royalton, Vermont is a N and S direction of 82.5 miles.

UPDATE: 6/4/17: DNA test on male Robinson from this line shows that DYS 393 is a 13. Ours is a 12. This rules them out. Also, their history shows that there was no son named Abiathar Smith Robinson. This is the most conclusive part of information.
Hiram Robinson (1806-1892) from Strafford, Orange, Vermont , is a man I once thought before that he was Abiathar's father, because Tunbridge, where Abiathar and Julia Ann married, is also in Orange County and Strafford is close to Tunbridge. Hiram had been married to Zeruiah Tyler.
Now Hiram and Zeruiah are biblical names. Zeruiah /zəˈruːjə/ (צרויה, sometimes transliterated Tzruya or Zeruya) is a figure in the Hebrew Bible. She was a sister of King David. According to 1 Chronicles 2:13-16 and also the Babylonian Talmud (Shabbat 55), Zeruiah was a daughter of Jesse (sister to Abigail another of Jesse's daughters according to 2 Samuel 17:25). Zeruiah had three sons, Abishai, Joab, and Asahel, all of whom were soldiers in David's army (and also David's nephews). Hiram had been the king of Tyre and was friendly with king David. Abiathar was the son of Abimelech, chief priest at Nob, took refuge with David who later appointed him high priest. I thought it fitting for these two young parents to pick a biblical name.
Hiram and Zeruiah are buried in Stafford Cemetery, Orange County, Vermont, which is the same county that Tunbridge is in. Hiram would have been 23 years old at Abiathar's birth, and Abiathar would have been their 1st child. Zeruiah would have been 21 years old, perfect ages. Hiram would have been 46 years old when Abiathar got married in Tunbridge, next door. Zeruiah would have been 44 years old.

From the US Post Office in Strafford village, go north on Brook Road for about 4-1/2 miles. The cemetery appears to be in the center of a large field. I'll need to get directions.Strafford Cemetery

I didn't find any Smith connected to this Hiram Robinson of Strafford, VT. However, sometimes people did name for someone they admired or knew.
Julia's mother was Asenath Durkee, and there was a Durkee Cemetery in North Tunbridge, Orange, Vermont with 61 interred there. The Durkees have their own genealogical webpage and send out monthly updates in the form of a newsletter. They're the line that makes Durkees mayonaise and spices.
The distance between Strafford, Orange, Vermont to Tunbridge, Orange, Vermont is 7.8 miles. "The town of Strafford was created on August 12, 1761 by way of a royal charter which King George III of England issued to Governor Benning Wentworth of New Hampshire. The town was named after the Earl of Strafford." It's 930 feet high, and very cold today at 7 degrees F. Tunbridge is at a lower elevation of 564 feet but at the same temperature today of 7 degrees F. "The town of Tunbridge was created on September 3, 1761, by way of a royal charter which King George III of England issued to Governor Benning Wentworth of New Hampshire."
Tunbridge's population:
So when Abiathar and Julia Ann got married in 1852 in Tunbridge, there were almost 2,000 people living here, but the very next year was the population starting to drop off. People were leaving. From 1861 to 1865, the Civil War between the North and the South raged.

Richard Warren of Mayflower on Robinson Tree
Thanks to finding cousin Sandra Wall, I find that we have another connection to an ancestor that was a passenger on the ship, The Mayflower. My first knowledge of such a connection was that we were connected to Richard Warren, who was the 13th signer of their Mayflower Compact. All these connections go back to our great grandmother, Julia Ann Tuller b: 1834 who was the wife of ggrandfather Abiathar Smith Robinson and our ggrandmother.
It goes this way. Julia Ann Tuller was the 1st cousin 3 times removed of Reverend Martin Tuller
Descendants of MARTIN Tuller, Reverend. I'll show how we arrive to Martin Tuller at the end.
1 [1] MARTIN Tuller, Reverend b: May 30, 1753 in Egremont, Berks,Mass. Bay Province, Massachusetts d: October 01, 1813 in Royalton, Windsor, Vermont

Martin Tuller was married to Mary Brown who is the connection.
Her father was Abraham Brown.

.. +Thomas Corey b: 1661 in Portsmouth, Rhode Isalnd d: March 21, 1737/38 in Tiverton, Rhode Island
I am the 9th great granddaughter of Richard Warren who was born in 1578.
My children are his 10th great grandchildren. My grandson is Richard's 11th great grandson.
9 generations ago, I had 512 ancestors, 256 female and 256 male. That takes me most likely to the year 1791.
I have to go back further than 10 generations ago when I had 1,024 ancestors of which 512 were female
and 512 were males. This would only take me back to the year 1766. Glad I've found a few through genealogy
searches. .
