Where Did John Robinson of Royalton, Windsor, Vermont Come From and Then Go To?

 Nadene Goldfoot

On the 1850 census of Royalton, Windsor, Vermont;  of Alonzo Charles Tuller (listed as Alaze Fuller) was the 15 year old daughter of Alonzo, Julia Ann Tuller.  She would marry Abiathar Smith Robinson.  I have been forever bothered because I cannot tell for sure who Abiathar's father, therefore family were.  There were so many many Robinsons in the area. Alonzo was a stone cutter.

On the census with Alonzo was the 51 year old John Robinson, farmer, born in Vermont if one can believe the 1850 census.  Just try finding out who he was!
I found a John Robinson age 68 on the 1870 census of Calais, Washington, Vermont.  Washington County is next door to Orange County, which is where Tunbridge is.  Tunbridge is the town where Julia Ann and Abiathar married.  There was a James Robinson there.
There was a John S or John J Robinson, 20-30 years old in Barnet, Caledonia, Vermont on the 1840 census. It looked like an S to me, poorly written, of course, could be a J.  Caledonia is also next to Orange, Vermont.

In Tunbridge, Orange, Vermont, next door to Royalton on the August 10, 1860 census was a James Robinson 60, and his son, James K Robinson , 29.  Mary is the mother, age 58.

In Tunbridge, Orange, Vermont, next door to Royalton,  on the July 25, 1870 census was a James Robinson.  I have seen a John James  "Kimo Pakaka" Robinson listed in a list of Robinsons who died in 1876.  Could this also be the John?  This James was 70  born in 1800 and seemingly the father of another James T Robinson age 39 and Charles K Robinson 41 .  (I see the T and K have been misread several times.).

Oh oh.  John Robinson of Calais, Washington, Vermont was on the September 5, 1850 census there.  So this cannot be my John Robinson on the 1850 census with the Tullers.  Calais, Washington is next door to Orange where Tunbridge is-a town next door to Royalton.  They could all be related, though;  or NOT.  Robinson is such a common name in New England, the 16th most common.

John Robinson age 58 of Calais was also in Calais in 1860 with wife, Lucy. Listed in John's family also was Hiram Robinson, age missing-a carpenter-joiner; a brother possibly?   On that census page was also listed Levi Robinson 55, farmer, and wife Catherine, hopefully a brother to John.  This was taken on August 10, 1860.  Calais, Washington is next door to Orange, Vermont.

John , now 78 years old, was also on the June 24, 1880 census of Calais, Washington, Vermont.  He's still a farmer and married to Lucy.  Next door lives Corrie E Robinson, 34 yr old female-daughter?

Julia Tuller and Abiathar Smith Robinson married February 29, 1852 in Tunbridge.  Both could have had relatives there.  Julia was 17, born December 18, 1834.  Abiathar was born on December 7, 1829 we think in Vermont according to a few census, but one said NY.  Both December babies, Abiathar was 5 years older than Julia.

DNA testing shows that I am related to 2 women, we believe through the Robinson line.  One is a twin,  so actually 2 matches right there who are 2nd to 4th cousins through a Diane Robinson with father of Richard David Robinson to Arthur David Robinson of Bakersfield, Franklin, Vermont to David of Bakersfield and I believe onto Jacob A Robinson b: 1790 in Bakersfield  to John Robinson b: 1769 of Tolland, CT. The other, also a 2nd to 4th cousin but with less cMs,  is  a very nice woman, my  with a Charles Bartlett married to Martha Ellen Brown Robinson to a John Robinson of Vermont b: 1826 to Israel Robinson b: 1800 in Roxbury, Delaware, NY and so on to the famous John Robinson who sent the Pilgrims over to America on the Mayflower.

Other than the 2 DNA matches; 1st cousin K. Robinson matches up with a J, but my brother and I do not.  He matches a M and D.  My brother matches many Robinsons, all from our father's side of the family-and 2 from our mother's mother who was from Sweden; none from our mother's father's side of the family who was a Robinson-a Blue-bellied Yankee of New England.   I match those similar to my brother.  Cousin K and my brother matched a D J R so that's a possible one to check on.

The sad note is that my genealogy matches doesn't get help from the DNA matches.  Also, the 1850 census is the first to list women and children, too.  An 1840 is not helping in tracing back if one needs a wife and children to correspond with info on 1850's.  John Robinsons were rather rare around Royalton.  Abaither's were extinct!

The 1830 census Rutland should hold the father of Abiathar, since he was born in 1829.  There are listed on the 1830 census 4,652 Robinsons in Vermont!

A county is next door to Windsor is Rutland.  On the 1830 census 1st page listing  was an Amos Robinson in Menden, Rutland, Vermont but no child under 5 was marked.  Pawlett, Rutland, VT had Esra Robbinson, age 40-50,  with a boy under 5. A possible brother, Otis Robbinson had 2 sons under 5.
