Robinson First Names Follow King David's Priests or Daughter of Ancient Priest

Nadene Goldfoot

Description

Zadok, High Priest
An interesting comment about these names coming from the Old Testament is that information about Joseph and King David come from the Jewish Torah (the 5 books of Moses) which is in the Old Testament.  These names I highlighted  on our Robinson tree are not usually used by Jewish people, instead, are used by Christians.  Jews use such names as Joseph, Daniel, David, etc, but I've never seen anyone with Zadock,Abiahar or Asenath.  John is in the New Testament but Jonathan was the son of King Saul.

This makes me think that there is this religious connection between Abiathar and John R. Robinson, my new decision of the missing father of Abiathar.  Hope I'm right.

Zadok, meaning "Righteous" "Justified", was a Kohen, biblically recorded to be a descendant from Eleazar the son of Aaron. He was priest during the reigns of David and Solomon. Wikipedia  With my new decision of having John R. Robinson with the wife being a Pember, I've got him as the father of Abiathar Smith Robinson.  Now here's some new information about their first names.  He's the father of John R.Robinson, father of Abiathar Smith Robinson .

Abiathar, High Priest at Nob

Abiathar, in the Hebrew Bible, son of Ahimelech or Ahijah, High Priest at Nob, the fourth in descent from Eli and the last of Eli's House. The only one of the priests to escape from Saul's massacre, he fled to David at Keilah, taking with him the ephod and other priestly regalia. Wikipedia
The rescue of the chief priest Abiathar, in the massacre of the priests of Nob ordered by Saul, was fortunate for the house of David; for if he had lost his life, David's descendants would through divine retaliation have been entirely wiped out of existence at the hands of Athaliah (Sanh. 95b).

Robinson's Pember Line Intermingling with Tuller and Hyde, Durkee

Nadene Goldfoot
Woodstock, Windsor County, Vermont
One of the beautiful spots in Windsor County

Whoopee!  I think I found Abiathar's parents:
John R. Robinson b: 1797 Strafford, Orange, VT
Sophronia Pember b: 1788 Randolph, Orange, VT
Makes sense:
Tunbridge, Orange, Vermont was full of Robinson and
Tuller families where Abiathar and Julia married in 1852.
I had decided to use google in searching for Robinsons in Vermont. Royalton was the city I first found Julia Ann Tuller who had married Abiathar Smith Robinson, my ggrandfather.  I haven't found his parents.   Up came an interesting website,  It didn't have one Robinson listed!  I knew from a special book that Robinsons abounded in Royalton.  This website listed only the original settlers in Windsor County.  Royalton, Vermont is where Julia Ann Tuller lived in 1850 when 15 years old. I hoped to find Abiathar listed in this county, too.  Nope.

http://www.genealogytrails.com/ver/windsor/1891old_families.html .  I started checking all the surnames with names already in my Family Tree Maker in my computer.  It seemed that most all the names in the article were in my Robinson tree, though not all the people mentioned, of course.  These were the common surnames of that area and period .  I was surprised that I had some of the Pembers.  I had even forgotten that I had had that surname in there.  I checked that surname and
found I had several on my tree.  What a surprise.

Windsor had the 1850 census with Julia Ann Tuller age 15 on it.
Next door is Tunbridge, Orange, Vermont with many Robinsons and Tullers as well.
Julia and Abiathar Smith Robinson married in 1852 in Tunbridge.
This covered Windsor County and others of 1891, when Abiathar Smith Robinson was living in Wenona, Marshall, Illinois..  His family had come from Vermont.  His wife was Julia Ann Tuller who was on the 1850 census of Royalton at age 15.  That's how I found out who her parents were.  They were on the census with her, of course.  From there it was fairly easy to trace her family way back to the Hydes.  Of course, the first thing I had thought of when discovering we had Hydes on the tree was Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde.

I found that from Elijah Pember born 1729 in Connecticut and wife, Hannah Cross, came Sophronia
Pember.
Sophronia Pember b: December 25, 1788 in Randolph, Orange,  Vermont d: Aft. August 1870 in Stowe, Lamoille, Vermont
.. +JOHN R. ROBINSON b: November 18, 1797 in Strafford, Orange, Vermont d: April 30, 1852 in Newbury, Orange, Vermont.  This could be THE John Robinson who was on the 1850 census with the Tuller family in Royalton AND could be the father of Abiathar!  That John Robinson said he was 51 years old on the 1850 census.  Knowing how people were not always exact, the date of 1797 is very close to what I've been looking for, 1799 and a JOHN ROBINSON.  Hmmm.

This is a sheer accident, but THIS John R. Robinson happens to be one of the siblings of a Robinson
line I thought could be THE father I've been looking for because one of his children I had listed
was Ebenezer Ganung Robinson, told to me by a DNA connection to our Robinson line who is my
3rd cousin. We've been working on this for years. We know we are connected, but couldn't find
a true connection because of my lack of knowledge about Abiathar's parents. After saying for years
that EUREKA! This Robinson is the father, I now feel that I indeed have found his parents after
all.
I checked and found that this John Robinson's father was Zadock R b: 1763, and his father was Daniel
R. b: 1734 in Massachusetts. His father was Ebenezer R and wife Elizabeth Reed(on Pember's tree)
b: 1697. His father was Samuel George R in 1654 Massachusetts and his father was George R. born
in 1626 in Scotland! This does fit the DNA of my 1st cousin K. Robinson whose Y haplogroup is
R-L21 which used to be called R1b1a2a1a1b4. Also, with my geneology findings, I had found that
Ann Hyde had led to today's royal family of England.
ANNE HYDE b: March 22, 1637/38 in Cranbourne Lodge, Windsor in Berkshire,Windsor,
England d: April 10, 1671 in London, England Occupation: Maid of Honor to
Mary, Princess Royal .. +King James, II, Duke of York and VII b: October 14, 1633 in St. James Palace,
London, England d: September 16, 1701 in St. Germain-en-Laye, France

I found that Descendants of John Pember, Sr.

John Pember, Sr. b: April 12, 1696 in New London, Connecticut d: January 26, 1782 in Norwich, New London, Connecticut
.. +Mary Hyde b: February 21, 1697/98 in Norwich, New London County,  Connecticut d: April 17, 1782 in Norwich, New London, Connecticut .
Mary Hyde is my 5th great grandmother. Hyde is the surname that leads our family to the Royal
kings and queens.

I found Thomas Pember was a victim in the Royalton, Vermont Indian raid on October 16, 1780

Descendants of Elijah Pember 1 Elijah Pember b: Abt. 1729 in Ellington, Tolland, Connecticut
d: March 15, 1812 in Ellington, Tolland, Connecticut .. +Hannah Cross b: 1729 in Connecticut d: April 05, 1798
in Ellington, Tolland, Connecticut . 2 Samuel Pember b: January 04, 1749/50 in Stafford, Tolland, Connecticut
d: March 14, 1826 in Randolph, Orange, Vermont ..... +Esther Reade b: June 27, 1758 in Randolph, Orange, Vermont
d: August 10, 1826 in Randolph, Orange, Vermont . 2 Stephen Pember b: Abt. 1751 . 2 Thomas Pember b: Abt. 1753
d: October 16, 1780 in Royalton, Vermont, Indian Raid

Julia Ann Tuller is my mother's grandmother. Her mother was Asenath Durkee, below.
Durkee is a huge line of people in New England and beyond. They even have their own bulletins for
genealogy. (Society of Genealogy of Durkee, Inc, in Long Beach, CA. )Bernice B. Gunderson
helped me figure out who Alonzo's parents were.
1 Alonzo Charles Tuller b: October 22, 1809 in St. Albans, Vermont (Franklin County)
d: January 29, 1870 in Rockwell, LaSalle, Illinois Occupation: 1850 Stone Mason .. +Asenath Asinith Durkee b: 1814 in Royalton, Windsor County, Vermont
d: 1868 in Royalton, Windsor County, Vermont/Rockwell, Illinois
Burning of Royalton, Vermont Oct 16, 1780 .
Mr. Robert Havens' son, Daniel Havens, was entertaining his friend,
Thomas Pember,
and they were in the house, and made their appearance at the door a little before
the Indians came up. Tom had been there because he was interested in Daniel's sister.
They saw the Indians and ran for their lives. Daniel Havens made his escape by throwing himself
over a hedge fence down the bank of the branch and crawling under a log, with Indians passing
directly over it. They pursued Thomas Pember till they came so near near as to throw a spear at him,
which pierced his body and put an end to his existence. He ran some time, however, after he was
wounded, till by loss of blood he fainted, fell, and was unable to proceed farther. The Indians came
upon him and thrust a spear through his body, took off his scalp, and left him as food for worms.
The house of Mr. Havens became the Indians' central meeting house. Then they killed young
Elias Button. After killing Pember and Button and taking plunder, they went to another house, that of
Joseph Kneeland.

Thomas was interred in Hutchinson's private lot on Wells Farm in S. Tunbridge, but headstones
were removed by Orison Foster and land was cultivated. Part of a series of raids designed
to terrorize frontier settlements, the Oct. 16, 1780 raid on settlements along the White River
and its First Branch resulted in the destruction of dozens of log huts, and of the crops
and livestock necessary to survive the coming winter. Although women and girls were not harmed,
28 men and boys were taken captive and taken to Canada, along with plundered valuables.
Four settlers were killed.
We had Durkee ancestors taken to Canada. Timothy Durkee was one who suffered through
the burning of Royalton, and is a good example of how the early New England families spread to the
rest of the USA. The Indians had left the house and barn in flames of General Stevens because they
heard the alarm by Mr. Havens, and went up the river to Timothy Durkee's house where they took his
two boys prisoners, Adan and Andrew, and carried Adan to Canada, who died there in prison.

Descendants of Timothy Lewis Durkee, Lieut. These 3 Durkee boys would be my mother's 3rd
ggranduncles. 1 [1] Timothy Lewis Durkee, Lieut. b: May 01, 1737 in Woodberry, Litchfield County,
Connecticut d: March 29, 1797 in Royalton, Windsor, Vermont Occupation: Farmer .. +Adna b: Abt. 1737 in CT d: in Royalton, Windsor County, Vermont *2nd Wife of [1] Timothy Lewis Durkee, Lieut.: .. +Lucy Anna Smalley b: January 19, 1736/37 in Lebanon,

Four children taken by Indians as captives. Aden died in captivity by the Indians at Montreal.
He and his brother, Sheldon Durkee, were among the prisoners during the burning of Royalton,
Vermont, 10/16/1780 under the command of a British Officer. Sheldon was released.
. . . 3 ANDREW Durkee b: April 25, 1769 in Woodbury, Litchfield County, Conn.

.. +Sarah Jones b: Abt. 1771 d: December 21, 1853 in Vermont
Sheldon was 9 when he was captured by the Indians.

Rix is on our tree. One of Abiathar's sons was Edward..Rix Robinson. b: 1852
Edward "Rix" Robinson b: November 1852 in Vermont d: 1922 in Illinois Occupation: 1880 Teamster
..
Garner Rix was another boy captured by the Indians in the Royalton Raid.
Garner's father was Daniel Elisha RIX, Deacon.
[1] Daniel Elisha RIX, Deacon b: September 24, 1738 in Preston, New London, Connecticut d: March 23, 1823 in Royalton, Vermont Occupation: Farmer

1 Garner RIX b: July 31, 1769 in Preston, New London, Connecticut d: August 28, 1854 in Royalton, Windsor, Vermont .. +Elizabeth "Betsey" Lyman b: November 18, 1772 in Middleton, Connecticut d: November 18, 1851 in prob. Royalton, Vermont
I am Garner Rix's  4th great grandniece.
Garner Rix was 13 years old at the time of the Royalton Raid. He was captured by the Indians in the last raid of the American Revolution. He was taken to Montreal, sold to a French Woman who kept him safe for a year until it was safe for him to walk home, by himself at age 14. When he got back home the town gave him  land.

In the Windsor County, Ascutney Cemetery are buried Gerald and Mildred Durkee. Sarah L Durkee is also there, daughter of Fisk and Abbey Durkee.

Whew!  I'm so glad I was driven to work on Pember and did indeed bump into THE Robinson I've been looking for all these years.  Let's hope, anyway.  It's looking good to be true.  Heh, heh, heh,
I just double checked and found that once when talking to my DNA cousin, I had decided upon these
very parents to be THE ONES.  Then I wasn't really sure.  I have the same parents listed twice now
as his parents.
Update: google turned up a Pember of note:  George Hawkins Pember, known as G. H. Pember, was an English theologian and author who was affiliated with the Plymouth Brethren.Wikipedia

Our Robinson's Tuller-Tullar Line From Simsbury, Hartford, Connecticut to Vermont and More

Nadene Goldfoot
Historic 1780 farmhouse in Vermont with mountain view.
One of the oldest homes in the county has 7 Bedrooms and 4 bathrooms on a secluded lot with mountain views - Spacious living for family and friends. One large family or 2 families or a group of adults.  Home is about 3,500 Sq. Feet. What a home to do genealogy work!
Confederate Raid of St. Albans, Vermont
Home of several Tullers.
A unit of Confederate soldiers invaded Vermont during the Civil War on October 19, 1864, at the end of the war.Canada did not take sides during the American Civil War. The country allowed civilians and soldiers from both the Union and the Confederacy to enter its borders to secure supplies or safety, and St. Albans was close to Canada.

My ggrandmother, Julia Ann Tuller's grandfather, Samuel Tuller, was born in St. Albans, Vermont to Reuben Tuller and Mary Cowles in 1783, and his parents must have been one of the first to arrive, which was after the Revolutionary War.   Reuben was first a private then a captain in that war in 1776.

Named after StAlbans, Hertfordshire, England, it was first settled during the Revolution by Jesse Welden. The war delayed further settlement until 1785, when many others began to arrive. Farmers found the rich, dark loam suitable for cultivation, as well as for the raising of cattle, horses and sheep.

Above  is a picture from TULLAR SCHOOL in St. Albans, 1886.  The Tullar School was a one-room schoolhouse that stood at the corner of Lower Newton Road and the Kellogg Road.  At the moment we don’t know exactly when the school was built, but the lot was cleared in the fall of 1964 Collins and Dunsmore children are in this pictures.  I don't know about any Robinson or Tuller/Tullars in there.

Abiathar Smith Robinson's wife was Julia Ann Tuller b: 1834 in Royalton, Vermont. They would be my great grandparents.

In 1780, Royalton suffered from a large scale Indian attack.  Relatives were involved.  The book: History  of Royalton by Evelyn Lovejoy tells a lot about Royalton.  I had read it as a library inter-loan.  It's in Vermont.  "Garner Rix was about 12 years old when he moved with his father, pregnant mother, two sisters and three brothers from a farm in Connecticut to a log cabin on the banks of the White River, a place that would one day be called Royalton, Vermont.

THE INDIAN ATTACK ON ROYALTON
About 300 Indians of various tribes on October 16, 1780, before dawn attacked this town.  The leader was the Caghnewaga tribe and had left Canada  with a British Lieutenant Horton, and Le Mott, a Frenchman.

Our ancestor, Timothy Durkee, suffered through the burning of Royalton.  Only his oldest son, Heman, stayed in Royalton after this attack.  Harvey stayed in Vermont but others moved to New York.  The grandchildren spread throughout the land;  Pennsylvania, New York, Wisconsin, Texas, Illinois, Michigan, Indiana, Iowa, and even Canada.  Garner Rix was captured by the British, Mohawks, and Abenakis during the Royalton Raid. Mohawks or Abenakis took him to Montreal and sold him to a French woman who kept him safe until he could walk home a year later.

This Tuller family had been on the 1850 census in Royalton showing that Julia Ann was 15 years old at the time.  Living with them was a John Robinson age 51, hired hand, farmer like Alonzo was.  Since there were so many Robinsons in the area at the time, I've never been able to connect him to Abiathar.  I have not found Abiathar to be connected to anyone other than Julia Ann.

Abiathar and Julia Ann married in Tunbridge, Vermont on February 29, 1852.  It is very close to Royalton and relatives lived in both places.

She and Abiather lived next door to her younger brother, Albert Tuller, on the 1870 census in Wenona, Marshall, Illinois.  She was 36 and her brother was 27. Where was Abiathar and Julia Ann during the USA 1860 census?  They were found living in Canada.  That would have covered the time during the Civil War from 1861-1865.  From what I have found, they were in Canada from 1858 to 1861.

10/16/09 Obit from Tom Mead, my 2nd cousin,  from Wenona newspaper: Mrs. Julia A. As an afterthought, not having any old family pictures of any Tuller like Julia, I thought I'd browse on google and found Solomon "Zalman" Tuller b: c1871, father of Joseph on geni.com   He's evidently of a different Y haplogroup, a Jewish one.  Like Robinson, there are Jewish ones and Gentile ones of the same surnames.  This Jewish line could easily be from Holland via Germany or Austria.  Gentiles used common Jewish first names, too, especially during this period.

Last Name: Tuller

The name could have originated in Germany or Austria and people had to buy the name.  When Jews were forced to choose a surname for govermental reasons, they could have chosen this one, a surname possibly already in use by the Gentiles.

Tuller and Elmira "Almira" Tuller of Liberty Township, Delaware County. He married Martha Brown (b. 1837, d. 1910), a daughter of Sidney and Anna Hart Brown of Worthington.   Martha Mary Huggett (b. 1902, d. 1983) was the daughter of Cynthia (Tuller) Huggett and Harry R. Huggett, and granddaughter of Adolphus and Martha Tuller.  I have them on my tree.
