Robinson's Pember Line Intermingling with Tuller and Hyde, Durkee
Windsor County. Royalton, Vermont is where Julia Ann Tuller lived in 1850 when 15 years old. I hoped to find Abiathar listed in this county, too. Nope.
http://www.genealogytrails.com/ver/windsor/1891old_families.html . I started checking all the surnames with names already in my Family Tree Maker in my computer. It seemed that most all the names in the article were in my Robinson tree, though not all the people mentioned, of course. These were the common surnames of that area and period . I was surprised that I had some of the Pembers. I had even forgotten that I had had that surname in there. I checked that surname and
found I had several on my tree. What a surprise.
I found that from Elijah Pember born 1729 in Connecticut and wife, Hannah Cross, came Sophronia
Pember.
1 Sophronia Pember b: December 25, 1788 in Randolph, Orange, Vermont d: Aft. August 1870 in Stowe, Lamoille, Vermont
.. +JOHN R. ROBINSON b: November 18, 1797 in Strafford, Orange, Vermont d: April 30, 1852 in Newbury, Orange, Vermont. This could be THE John Robinson who was on the 1850 census with the Tuller family in Royalton AND could be the father of Abiathar! That John Robinson said he was 51 years old on the 1850 census. Knowing how people were not always exact, the date of 1797 is very close to what I've been looking for, 1799 and a JOHN ROBINSON. Hmmm.
This is a sheer accident, but THIS John R. Robinson happens to be one of the siblings of a Robinson
line I thought could be THE father I've been looking for because one of his children I had listed
was Ebenezer Ganung Robinson, told to me by a DNA connection to our Robinson line who is my
3rd cousin. We've been working on this for years. We know we are connected, but couldn't find
a true connection because of my lack of knowledge about Abiathar's parents. After saying for years
that EUREKA! This Robinson is the father, I now feel that I indeed have found his parents after
all.
I checked and found that this John Robinson's father was Zadock R b: 1763, and his father was Daniel
R. b: 1734 in Massachusetts. His father was Ebenezer R and wife Elizabeth Reed(on Pember's tree)
b: 1697. His father was Samuel George R in 1654 Massachusetts and his father was George R. born
in 1626 in Scotland! This does fit the DNA of my 1st cousin K. Robinson whose Y haplogroup is
R-L21 which used to be called R1b1a2a1a1b4. Also, with my geneology findings, I had found that
Ann Hyde had led to today's royal family of England.
ANNE HYDE b: March 22, 1637/38 in Cranbourne Lodge, Windsor in Berkshire,Windsor,
England d: April 10, 1671 in London, England Occupation: Maid of Honor to
Mary, Princess Royal .. +King James, II, Duke of York and VII b: October 14, 1633 in St. James Palace,
London, England d: September 16, 1701 in St. Germain-en-Laye, France
1 John Pember, Sr. b: April 12, 1696 in New London, Connecticut d: January 26, 1782 in Norwich, New London, Connecticut
.. +Mary Hyde b: February 21, 1697/98 in Norwich, New London County, Connecticut d: April 17, 1782 in Norwich, New London, Connecticut .
Mary Hyde is my 5th great grandmother. Hyde is the surname that leads our family to the Royal
kings and queens.
I found Thomas Pember was a victim in the Royalton, Vermont Indian raid on October 16, 1780
Descendants of Elijah Pember 1 Elijah Pember b: Abt. 1729 in Ellington, Tolland, Connecticut

d: October 16, 1780 in Royalton, Vermont, Indian Raid
Julia Ann Tuller is my mother's grandmother. Her mother was Asenath Durkee, below.
Durkee is a huge line of people in New England and beyond. They even have their own bulletins for
genealogy. (Society of Genealogy of Durkee, Inc, in Long Beach, CA. )Bernice B. Gunderson
helped me figure out who Alonzo's parents were.
1 Alonzo Charles Tuller b: October 22, 1809 in St. Albans, Vermont (Franklin County)
d: January 29, 1870 in Rockwell, LaSalle, Illinois Occupation: 1850 Stone Mason .. +Asenath Asinith Durkee b: 1814 in Royalton, Windsor County, Vermont
d: 1868 in Royalton, Windsor County, Vermont/Rockwell, Illinois
Mr. Robert Havens' son, Daniel Havens, was entertaining his friend,
Thomas Pember,
and they were in the house, and made their appearance at the door a little before
the Indians came up. Tom had been there because he was interested in Daniel's sister.
They saw the Indians and ran for their lives. Daniel Havens made his escape by throwing himself
over a hedge fence down the bank of the branch and crawling under a log, with Indians passing
directly over it. They pursued Thomas Pember till they came so near near as to throw a spear at him,
which pierced his body and put an end to his existence. He ran some time, however, after he was
wounded, till by loss of blood he fainted, fell, and was unable to proceed farther. The Indians came
upon him and thrust a spear through his body, took off his scalp, and left him as food for worms.
The house of Mr. Havens became the Indians' central meeting house. Then they killed young
Elias Button. After killing Pember and Button and taking plunder, they went to another house, that of
Joseph Kneeland.
Thomas was interred in Hutchinson's private lot on Wells Farm in S. Tunbridge, but headstones
were removed by Orison Foster and land was cultivated. Part of a series of raids designed
to terrorize frontier settlements, the Oct. 16, 1780 raid on settlements along the White River
and its First Branch resulted in the destruction of dozens of log huts, and of the crops
and livestock necessary to survive the coming winter. Although women and girls were not harmed,
28 men and boys were taken captive and taken to Canada, along with plundered valuables.
Four settlers were killed.
We had Durkee ancestors taken to Canada. Timothy Durkee was one who suffered through
the burning of Royalton, and is a good example of how the early New England families spread to the
rest of the USA. The Indians had left the house and barn in flames of General Stevens because they
heard the alarm by Mr. Havens, and went up the river to Timothy Durkee's house where they took his
two boys prisoners, Adan and Andrew, and carried Adan to Canada, who died there in prison.
Descendants of Timothy Lewis Durkee, Lieut. These 3 Durkee boys would be my mother's 3rd
ggranduncles. 1 [1] Timothy Lewis Durkee, Lieut. b: May 01, 1737 in Woodberry, Litchfield County,

Four children taken by Indians as captives. Aden died in captivity by the Indians at Montreal.
He and his brother, Sheldon Durkee, were among the prisoners during the burning of Royalton,
Vermont, 10/16/1780 under the command of a British Officer. Sheldon was released.

Sheldon was 9 when he was captured by the Indians.
Edward "Rix" Robinson b: November 1852 in Vermont d: 1922 in Illinois Occupation: 1880 Teamster
..
Whew! I'm so glad I was driven to work on Pember and did indeed bump into THE Robinson I've been looking for all these years. Let's hope, anyway. It's looking good to be true. Heh, heh, heh,
I just double checked and found that once when talking to my DNA cousin, I had decided upon these
very parents to be THE ONES. Then I wasn't really sure. I have the same parents listed twice now
as his parents.
Update: google turned up a Pember of note: George Hawkins Pember, known as G. H. Pember, was an English theologian and author who was affiliated with the Plymouth Brethren.Wikipedia
