  Distance from Bennington, Vermont to Royalton,  Windsor, Vermont is 92.5 miles.  " In the early 18th century, small earthen roadways carried travelers by foot or horseback."  Traveling overland with heavy things was done by oxen.  "Before 1800, Vermonters walked, rode horses, or drove wagons on miserable roads if they wanted to get anywhere. Most people rarely ventured beyond their local community. Travel was mostly for the rich (who had time and money) and for the poor (who were forced to move frequently to find jobs)."

Bennington, Bennington, Vermont, settled by 1761 Lots and lots and lots of Robinsons were born in Bennington. Of all the Robinson trees that exist, I think we belong to one of the most outstanding ones full of people of accomplishments.  From being prominent in the Revolutionary War to having a doctor who fought against Smallpox to each man from Captain Samuel Robinson b: 1707 on being outstanding, I found much to be proud of in our ancestors.  Many of these people originated in Bennington, Vermont. it produced Governor Moses Robinson of Vermont.  Leadership came from this line.  He died in Bennington, and had found wives from there.   On the 1840 census I found 4 adult Robinsons listed:  1. David Robinson--two men from 20 -30 years of age and David between age 80 - 90 (born between 1750-1760).  . There were also  a girl between 5 and 10; 2 women between 20- 30, a woman between 30 -40,  and an older woman between 70 - 80, probably David's wife.   2. John S. Robinson --a teen-ager between 15-20 and John between 30- 40, born 1800-1810 and his wife between 20-30 and an older woman between 50-60.   3. Safford Robinson--a man between 30-40 and Safford between 50-60 born 1780-1790 and Safford's wife between 50-60 and an older woman between 80-90.  4. Samuel Robinson--between 60-70 and a woman between 20 - 30 and Samuel's wife between 60 -70. born between 1770-1780 ........................................................................................................................................................... Robinson (son of Samuel Robinson III, Col. b: 1738) b: May 09, 1784 in Bennington, Vermont, age 66 d: March 21, 1868 in Bennington, Vermont .. +Martha Preston b: Abt. 1784 4.  Descendants of Samuel Robinson, Jr. 1 Samuel Robinson, Jr. (son of Samuel Robinson III, Col. b: 1738) b: January 05, 1774 in Bennington, Vermont d: March 10, 1851 in Bennington, Vermont .. +Sarah Harwood b: October 03, 1775 in Bennington, Vermont d: September 09, 1851 in Bennington, Vermont ?                                                                                 Royalton, Vermont was the home of our ggrandmother and possibly our ggrandfather, Abiathar Smith Robinson.  It  had suffered from an Indian raid when our ancestors were living there.  The town was started in 1779.  300 Indians of several tribes burned it down the next year.  A tribe from Canada started by aiming for Newbury, Vermont first.  The family of Timothy Durkee suffered through the burning as well as John Hutchinson and they were family.  Julia Ann Tuller was born in 1834 so was born after the Indian attack but her mother's family had been there at the time.  Royalton is where our family story really starts.

 I've changed the parents of Abiathar Smith Robinson so that he's joined the tree belonging to two close 3rd cousin matches we have that are two ladies, not with the surname of Robinson; Ms L and Ms C.  To be 3rd cousins, we must share a gggrandfather or at least one of his brothers.  Abiathar Smith Robinson is my ggrandfather.  His missing parents are the kingpin to my relationship to Ms L and Ms C.  Now we are all sharing  my gggrandfather, Abiathar's new father-John Robinson b: 1786 in possibly Bennington, Vermont  and/or Jacob H. Robinson, his brother who died in Bakersfield, Vermont.  He could have also been born in Bennington.

Abiathar's Yhapogroup is R-L21.  This matches with a J.A. Robinson of Maine.  They have a 3 step distance between them and do not share any DNA.  I had Abiathar placed on his tree but then couldn't place our newly found real matching DNA 3rd cousins there, as we know of their tree up to this same point that confounds me. I have a feeling that some of these Robinson lines of New England are distantly related though we cannot go back that far into England.  Otherwise, how can Abiathar be on one tree and be related by Y haplogroup to another.  It also shows we both are missing some important people on our unfilled trees.

Now Abiathar's parents are : John Robinson b: 1786 of Bennington, Vermont and Elizabeth Cushman b: 1790 or Jacob H. Robinson b: 1790 in NY or Vermont. This makes his former selected father now his uncle.  That was Jacob H Robinson b:1790 and dying in Bakersfield, Vermont.  John was shown to have had 3 children on a census before 1850 when children were named.  3 unknown children gave me reason to pick one as Abiathar since we have not found any records as to who his parents were.  He had to have been close to Royalton somehow where he courted Julia Ann Tuller.  There had been a John Robinson living with the Tullers on the 1850 census, but he has been impossible to trace.  maybe this father I've selected, a John Robinson, is the 1850 Tuller John who was said to be born in 1799.  Maybe they didn't know his real age.

This also makes Governor Moses Robinson the uncle of Abiathar's father, John Robinson.

John also  connects with Arthur David Robinson b: 1879  who's on this tree.  Arthur lived in Bakersfield, Franklin, Vermont.  My cousin's middle name is Arthur.  Accident?  It must be.  I'm sure the family couldn't have known anyone past Abiathar.

Yorkshire, England  is where William Robinson left.  He was born in 1640 but died in 1693 in Cambridge, Middlesex, Massachusetts.  Since the Mayflower sailed in 1620 and there was a fleet of ships that sailed to Plymouth in 1630, William was probably at least 20 when he sailed in about 1660.  He was married to Elizabeth Cutter born in Cambridge in 1645.  Cambridge is the home of Harvard University. Unless he was brought to America by his parents shortly after his birth which is possible to have been a part of this great migration from England to America by 1642. William was the father of this lineage with Moses Robinson and our possible line being so connected to Royalton, Vermont.   He is the originator of this Robinson tree, first to be on it.  I haven't gone back into English genealogy.  From 1630 to 1642, fifteen to twenty thousand people settled in the Massachusetts Bay Colony
