My ggrandfather, Abiathar Smith Robinson, married Julia Ann Tuller. Who were the Tullers?

Tuller Name Meaning

German (Tüller): topographic name from Middle High German tülle ‘fence’. Altered spelling of German Duller, a nickname for someone who was patient, from an agent derivative of Middle High German dult ‘patience’; or a habitational name for someone from Dullen in Württemberg; or from an agent derivative of Middle High German tult ‘fair’, ‘festival’ (Bavarian Dult), probably denoting someone who performed or peddled his wares at such events; or (in southern Germany) from a topographic name from Tull ‘elevation’, ‘knoll’.

I have traced our Tullers to Holland: Below are Tullers. Tullar is also on our tree. The story is that a family was angry with other members so changed their spelling to ar.

Tuller is also a Jewish surname. This is a good example I can see by the first names chosen, especially Solomon (Zalman and Feiga which are Yiddish names.) Sephardic (Spanish)Jews lived in Holland in the 1600's. They had lived through the Spanish Inquisition of 1492, and scattered, needing to be away from Inquisitioners. Being Jewish myself, it would be amazing if my mother's grandmother, Julia, had a Jewish heritage.
