OLD THEORY OF ABIATHAR'S ROBINSON FATHER IS BEST: HIRAM ROBINSON

My problem has always been that of finding my great grandfather, Abiathar Smith Robinson's parents to complete my tree properly.  I had about 5 possibilities and have gone back to my original thought; that of him being Hiram Robinson of Jamaica, Vermont.

I return to this theory again as of September 5, 2019.  I've tried dozens of theories of other men, and the best was one where my DNA cousins found, I'll call L and C, matched me with segments.  Somehow, from these Robinsons, we certainly still do as well, just how I don't know except there could be a relationship between lines of Robinsons.  The closest match I had was through Bakersfield, Vermont with the LaPere twins.

Abiathar's middle name was Smith, and that usually denotes the mother being a Smith.  He fits Hiram's time line as the first child born, and born a few months early in December 1829 when the parents didn't marry  until May 20, 1830, so it could have been an embarrassing shot-gun marriage.

The names of Hiram, Sarah and Abiathar are all found in the Old Testament.  This could be saying something about the religious denomination they belonged to.  Abiather in his later years was a very strict man about the sabbath, in not allowing  Frank, his son, to rescue his horse on Sunday out of the field where the bull had entered.  Whatever happened after that led to Frank's leaving home forever.

Descendants of Hiram Robinson, Jr. Abiathar was born in December of 1829.  Jamaica was only 48 years old.  Jamaica was only 28 years old when Hiram was born there.

In this scenario, Abiathar's father, Hiram, would have only been 20 years old when Abiathar was born and not yet married to Sarah "Sally" Smith.  Hiram died at age 30, so was in Abiathar's first 10 years of life only.

By hook and by crook I had connected to DNA Y haplogroup James Alton Robinson's tree which is 5 steps distant from our line  back to the 1600's being he and my cousin Kenneth Robinson were only 5 steps distant at 67 alleles in a DNA Y haplogroup test.  This time we go back to a George Robinson born 1639 in Boston, Massachusetts and married to Mary Bushnell/i.  born at Ten Hills Farm, Medford, Massachusetts.  

The fact that Abiathar wasn't on any census in Royalton, Vermont in 1850 like his wife Julia was, nor was he on the census in next door Tunbridge where they married, makes me realize he was a Vermonter/New Yorker, but farther away, and the Smith connection puts him right with Sarah "Sally" Smith who had married Hiram Robinson and both were born in Jamaica with Sally dying in Wenona, Illinois where Abaithar had moved to and had died.  .  

Abiathar had said he was born in New York on one census,.  "In the colonial period, with what is now Vermont,  was disputed territory, with land claims from both New York and New Hampshire."  

I wrote: 11/26/05  I am now presuming that Abiathar Smith Robinson was her first son.  Wrong assumption.  DNA shows they were not related. (I have no proof of this through DNA.  What made me think this?)  Here's why.  

10/9/09 Results in from dna test done by Donna Robinson on father tracing Oscar Robinson, brother of Abiathar we thought; not a match-3 alleles different : #1, #2, #6=must be wrong in connecting Abiathar this way.

12/18/09 Received information from Town of Jamaica for many of our Robinsons and Smith. including marriage for Sally and Hiram.

                                                                          

Jamaica, Vermont taken by Theodore Robinson in 1895.  He became a famous painter and was my 2nd cousin 3 times removed.  He was Hiram Robinson's 1st cousin once removed, the son of his grandfather.   Interestingly, I have done many oil paintings and my grandson, Dustin, born also on June 3rd, is a great artist.  Now I really hope that Hiram Robinson was Abiathar's real father!

They both wound up in Wenona, Illinois.  The Smith usually is the mother's maiden name when used as a middle name for a man.  Abiathar fits the time frame for Sally to have a child.  This could be why Abiathar moved to Wenona from Canada during the Civil War.

12/14/05  I found Sally Robinson listed on 1840 Jamaica, Vt census along with Hiram, James, John Reuben, and then John P Robinson; then I saw Nahum Smith, Samuel, Pollard, and Rufus Smith.  Rufus would be Sally's father.  James was her father in law and Reuben was the brother of her husband.

Here's some info on Oscar Robinson. Descendants of Oscar L. Roberson Robinson.  Oscar's family wound up in Wenona, Illinois just like my grandfather Abiathar.  This is where my grandfather, Frank Hugh Robinson was born and raised.

On Sarah Sally Smith's genealogy;   Willard SMITH, eldest son of Rufus, came to Jamaica with his father, from Mendon, Mass., in 1806, locating upon the farm now occupied by Titus HOWE. He now, at the age of eighty-four years, resides on road 14. He has been a member of the Baptist church here fifty years. The younger children were Ruth, Anna, Abigail, Samuel, Sally, Nahum, Rufus and Emeline. Willard lived with his father, in the western part of the town, until his marriage to Jerusha HOWE, in 1829. 7/7/06  Robinsons are buried in Royalton, Vermont in the Howe or Hickey Cemetery on the North Road.  Their stones now overgrown and falling. Julia Ann Tuller was born in Royalton.  Her family had a John Robinson living with them according to 1850 census.  Several of my theories have tried to find out if John was Abiathar's father, brother or some relative.  

Jamaica and Athens, Vermont were quite close to each other in the southen part of Vermont.  Amaziah Robinson, on the same tree, lived in Athens.  He was the son of Elijah Robinson.  I wonder also if Abiathar couldn't be his unknown son born c1830?  It's all a part of this same tree.  Right now I"ll settle with the Smith connection that Jamaica offers up with Sarah "Sally" Smith.  

The familyfinder test ordered last month, October 28, will soon tell who we match chromosome segments with.  Our Y haplogroup is R1b1a2a1a1b4 or simply, R-L21.  First 12 numbers of alleles starting with Dys#393 are  12, which makes us so different than other R1b1's who usually have 13.  .  The next numbers are 21, 14, 11, 11, 14, 12, 12, 12, 13, 13, and 29.  We've taken the test of the 67 alleles.  I saw a lot of matches with the first 12 alleles from Ireland, though history I've found is all from England.
